WELCOME NAU MILITARY STUDENTS

Welcome Veterans

A Personal Welcome from the Director of the Office of Military and Veteran Affairs

The fall 2010 semester at Northern Arizona University (NAU) saw the exciting creation of an Office of Military and Veteran Affairs on campus dedicated to the admission, transition, retention, graduation, and career services for our active duty, state national guard, reserve forces, and military veterans. As an NAU alumnus, product of the GI Bill, and veteran who proudly wore the uniform of the United States Army for 31 years, I see this new task as my new service calling. Serving you is a labor of love. All of our team within the office, the majority veterans like yourself, are very proud and honored by our new mission.

The Office of Military and Veteran Affairs has been established for the advocacy and advisement of military and veteran students, and their families, who are interested in attending or learning more about NAU. In addition to providing assistance with application, enrollment, and financial processes, this office, through its Military and Veteran Student Center, offers referrals for on- and off-campus services related to academic advising, professional development guidance, housing, and psychological counseling. Regardless of whether you elect to attend NAU in Flagstaff, one of our many Extended Campuses, or on-line, the Office of Military and Veteran Affairs, in conjunction with university faculty and staff, will provide the necessary support for our military and veterans during their transition to becoming students and active members of the university community.

This website will offer more information concerning the following initiatives which make NAU one of the most military- and veteran-friendly universities in the Southwest:

  • A one-stop student veteran center on the Flagstaff campus
  • A Chapter of the Student Veterans of America
  • Priority enrollment (Fall 2011)
  • A Veteran transition course (NAU-100, section 6852: “College Success for Veterans”)

Thank you for your military service.
With warmest regards,
C. Andrew Griffin, Ed.D, and LTC (ret) USA
