Dear NAU Colleagues,

Great strides have been made to improve and sustain changes in our community through the financial generosity and volunteer hours you and many others in northern Arizona have provided.

Together we are living this year’s United Way’s national theme, LIVE UNITED. Its mission is improving lives by mobilizing communities to create lasting changes in education, income and health in our communities.

Education - Helping children and youth achieve their potential through pre-school and early teen education.

Income - Helping families become financially stable and independent through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Health - Improving people’s health by partnering with more than 49 health and human services

Most of us have experienced or have been touched in some way by a United Way partner. Red Cross blood drives and CPR classes, Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentoring programs,  North Country Community Health Center’s wide array of health services are a few of the examples of the many organizations receiving United Way’s support.

Last year Northern Arizona University surpassed its United Way goal of $106,000! What an accomplishment, thanks to you and your NAU colleagues. This year we hope you will help NAU reach its new goal of $110,000. Your donation to United Way remains in the community, with 99 percent of the money going directly to agencies that serve northern Arizona.

The United Way coordinator in your department will have pledge forms available. As always, you have several options from which to choose for your donation, and you can sign up for payroll deduction to spread your contribution out over the year.

If you have questions about the United Way campaign, please contact NAU President’s United Way Council co-chairs Lou Arminio (3-6462) or Penny Medina (3-7145).

Every donation makes a difference. You can make a difference. Thank you for supporting the campaign message, “The Power of One”, during a time when our friends and neighbors in the community need our help.

John D. Haeger

President
