CFL Swap Out - In fall 2008, Arizona Public Service (APS) donated 5000 energy efficient CFL bulbs to NAU. Approximately 2500 were distributed to students in the Residence Halls who brought their own lamps to campus. Old incandescent bulbs were collected, recycled, and replaced with energy saving CFLs. The remaining 2500 are available to all faculty and staff at no charge from campus supply. Simply call 3-4227 and put in a work order to switch out your bulb!
Worried about proper disposal? There is a CFL recycling center located in the Applied Research and Development building. Because CFLs do contain a small amount of mercury, proper recycling is important. Learn more about CFLs and recycling (here)
Yellow Bike Program - The Office of Sustainability has been instrumental in helping to revamp the YBP. Last fall, an advisory committee developed a new checkout system for the yellow bikes ensuring that bikes are better maintained and available to students, staff, and faculty. ecoPass - NAU's administration teamed up with the Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (NAIPTA) to purchase ecoPasses for all full and part time NAU staff. The ecoPass is a FREE, unlimited city bus pass good through Fiscal Year 09. To pick up your pass, come by the Office of Sustainability (building 56 suite 120) with your NAU employee ID.
Homecoming - The Office of Sustainability held an "NAU RECYCLES!" drive at Homecoming this year. Volunteers from the Eco House, Campus Climate Challenge, and the Society for Environmental Communicators helped collect an entire dumpster worth of recyclable material during the Homecoming tailgate event. All of the material collected was diverted from the landfill.
City Tour for Solar - This national event was hosted by the Office of Sustainability in October 2008. The event was educational and brought together key local political figures to discuss the future of solar in Northern Arizona.
