Welcome to the Office of Sustainability. We are the central point of contact for sustainability issues affecting the campus and seek to work with partners from around the community to enhance NAU's operations. NAU is committed to the goal of carbon neutrality by 2020 and the Office of Sustainability works to generate environmentally, socially, and economically sound solutions to help contribute to this goal.

The Office of Sustainability has launched a new effort http://nau.visibleenergy.com to help employees track their home energy use and participate in a friendly competition to see which department's faculty and staff are doing the best to use less. The Visible NAU website allows APS and Unisource customers to sign up and have their energy data uploaded and anonymously compared to peers in departments across campus. Personal identities are confidential - participants are only recognized as members of a particular department.
The Visible NAU website includes conservation tips to help participants decrease energy use at home and translate these new habits to the workplace.
Visible NAU tracks departmental scores to see which department's faculty and staff use the least home energy and improve the most. Everyone who participates will be entered in a raffle to win great energy efficiency products and services. The drawing will take place on

NAU's Office of Sustainability was chosen to recieve a free CFL recycling center from Next Level for Recycling (NLR). Compact flourescent light bulbs contain a small amount of mercury that can leach into the environment if not properly recycled. NLR's ComPak recycling centers provide a safe and convenient way to recycle both the glass a mercury that make up the lamps. Simply bring your used CFL bulbs (the spiral kind) from home or work to the Applied Research and Development Building. Find the NLR recycling center at the East end of the building and place in the container. Questions? Contact Heather.Farley@nau.edu.
