Meebo Technical Information

Meebo is a free, real-time communication service provided by the Office of Residence Life staff at Northern Arizona University. Our Meebo service supports instant messaging using AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, and Jabber software. In addition, we use a Meebo widget integrated into our website to provide web-based instant messaging.

The Meebo service works best if your computer is equipped with some minimum features:

·  the latest version of Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox

·  the latest version of Flash Player

·  56K modem or faster Internet connection (slower modem access may result in delays between responses and screen refreshing)

·  "cookies" and javascript enabled in your browser

·  software firewall (such as Norton Internet Security) disabled

Please submit your initial question once and wait for a Residence Life staff member to reply to your chat request. Please keep your web browser window open; exiting your web browser will disconnect your conversation with the Residence staff member.

If you experience technical problems when attempting to use the web-based instant messaging, please submit your question via email at Residence.Life@nau.edu or call us at 928-523-3978.

To use our Meebo service outside of the webpage, you must have the appropriate software installed on your computer (or use your Instant Messenger service's web version of their software, if available). If you do not have an AIM, MSN, Google, ICQ, or Jabber screen name, you need to register for an account with one of these services, and then download the free software. As soon as the Instant Messenger software is installed, you can add Residence Life’s name to your personal Buddy or Contact List (NAU_ResLife). Please note: Residence Life staff cannot answer your technical questions about the IM software from these services, please review the service websites for instructions and hints on installing and using their Instant Messenger software.
