Accepting Learning Community applicants for the 2010-2011 Academic year

The Outdoor Recreation LC links freshmen of various majors who share an interest in learning about the outdoors and connecting with the natural environment. LC residents will live together in Wilson Hall. LC residents will develop a sense of place in northern Arizona through outdoor recreation and experiential education. This sense of place is not only visiting beautiful landscapes of the southwest, but also studying the concepts of "Leave No Trace (LNT) Outdoor Ethics and the natural/cultural history of the Coconino Plateau. Working in consultation with NAU Outdoors, activities for the Outdoor Recreation LC will be coordinated with that department.

In order to balance the needs of the community, small-scale programs for the group (e.g. faculty dinners, on-campus Challenge Course, informal advising programs) will be offered that will have minimal or no fees associated with them. Students interested in participating in large-scale programs coordinated by the learning community that require equipment rental or purchase, transportation, and logistics (e.g. trained facilitators), will incur additional expenses.
