The Global Village LC is a residential and academic community designed to foster global awareness and global citizenship among first year students. It's ideal for students interested in contemporary global issues and cross-cultural diversity, and who wish to explore the social sciences. LC residents live together in Cowden Hall.

 

Common Courses

Seats in certain high-demand classes will be reserved for Global Village LC residents. Your advisor will help you enroll in these courses, which you will attend with other members of your LC. Visit Priority Enrollment to find out more about enrollment and advising. In the fall, seats will be reserved in:

SBS 101: The Global Village
An interdisciplinary course designed to introduce students to many of the disciplines in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences that foster global understanding and global citizenship. The course will emphasize the linkages between the global and the local, human and cultural diversity, sustainable global communities, global justice and human rights, and global communication and connection, among other contemporary themes. Fulfills Liberal Studies credit in Cultural Understanding, and serves as the introductory course for the Global Studies minor.
 
FS  141: The First Year Seminar: The Search for Justice
In a small seminar format, this course will explore what we (and others) mean when they use the word “justice,” the intersections between economic, gender, racial/ethnic, civic and global justice, threats to justice in the 21st century, and pathways for building genuine justice.

Develop Global Awareness
Participate in campus programming promoting global awareness, including foreign film festivals, and interact with exchange students from other countries.
 
Community Mentor Support
The Community Mentor is a student staff member who provides leadership in the Global Village Learning Community. Community Mentors assist students with their transition to the university, and connecting them with faculty and peers within their major and/or area of interest. The Community Mentor is assigned to help new students in making the transition to college life easier and assisting them in furthering their academic pursuits.
