Why should I live in a Learning Community?
By living in an LC, you will have a greater opportunity to form connections with students, faculty and staff who share your interests, as well as and with the campus community as a whole. Our students say they value their experience because they:
Studies have found that LC residents also have higher retention rates and are more likely to persist toward graduation.
Will I be isolated in a Learning Community?
Not at all! Although LC residents are typically assigned to live near one another, there are only about 20-30 LC members on a floor with 50-80 residents. Choosing an LC gives you the best of both worlds: the opportunity to live near students in your interest area and the chance to interact with a diverse group of students in your hall.
Yes you can! We will allow you to bring a roommate with you, even if that person isn’t in the major or interested in the LC. Your roommate is more than welcome to join his/her floormates in the activities planned for the LC members.
Of course – providing there is still space available in the LC. If you wish to join an LC but have already submitted your housing contract, you may fill out your request here. If space is still available and your housing contract is in order, you will automatically be reassigned to a space within your requested LC.
Will there be a lot of activities in the Learning Community dominating all of my time?
When planning our events and activities, we try to keep in mind that our LC residents have busy schedules and other obligtations. In most cases, six or seven LC activities are scheduled each semester and residents are asked to participate in at least half of those activities. Weekly and/or bi-weekly meetings are held to inform residents of upcoming activities and to plan future events, but attendance at these meetings is optional.
