Accepting Learning Community applicants for the 2010-2011 Academic year
The Chemistry and Biochemistry Learning Community, one of the Engineering and Natural Sciences communities, brings together approximately 30 students interested in careers in the pure sciences or the health care professions. Students majoring in Chemistry/Biochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Forensics/Criminalistics and Health Professions are a great fit for this community. LC residents live together in Reilly Hall.
Common Courses
Seats in certain high-demand, major based classes will be reserved for Chemistry and Biochemistry LC freshmen.Your advisor will help you enroll in these courses, which you will attend with other members of your LC. Visit Priority Enrollment to find out more about enrollment and advising. For fall ’09, seats will be reserved in:
Fall Semester:
CHM 151 - General Chemistry I
Fundamental chemistry principles are presented at a level appropriate for pre-professional, science, and engineering majors. Students in the Chemistry & Biochemistry learning community will be enrolled in the same section of this course.CHM 151L - General Chemistry I Lab
This corequisite course (with CHM 151) introduces students to important lab practices and the analysis of chemical unknowns.
Spring Semester:
CHM 152 - General Chemistry II
This course is a continuation of CHM 151 in which fundamental chemistry principles are further investigated and presented. Students in the Chemistry and Biochemistry learning community can choose to be enrolled in the same section of this course.CHM 152L - General Chemistry II Lab
This corequisite course (with CHM 152) introduces students to further information such as analytical chemistry, thermochemistry, pH and buffers, chemical kinetics, and spectrophotometry.
Activities & Events
Each year LC residents work with residence hall staff to plan exciting and meaningful activities. Possible events in the Chemistry and Biochemistry LC include:
Welcome Gathering Meet other LC residents and discuss future activities and events Faculty Dinner Grab a plate and pick the brains of your professors Faculty Research Talks Learn about the types of research NAU chemistry faculty perform. This is a great opportunity to meet all of your professors and possibly join a research group. Chemistry Department Seminar Series Hear talks given by guest speakers, NAU faculty, and NAU graduate students about the work they do in chemistry.
