
Why we do Conferences
- Opportunity to attract future students to NAU
- Since groups are here to learn something, helps fulfill NAU's academic mission
- Offers a unique educational opportunity for staff to work with a variety of groups and interests
- Revenue generated helps keep housing rates lower; cost is divided over 12 months rather than 9 months
Season Ahead
- Average between 90-100 groups during the season not including Orientation
- About 15,000 conferees will attend our program this summer not including Orientation
Buildings Used
McConnell Hall - Coed youth groups; usually only one large group in the building at a time with minimal turnaround time.
Allen Hall - Coed youth hall; many groups at once with different needs. Issues are usually limited to noise and cleanliness.
Sechrist Hall - Orientation. Summer 2011 will include Orientation and opportunity to work with the Cardinal's football.
Mt. View Hall - Coed adult and youth conference groups - Workshop Housing. CA duties include preparing for Conferences and individuals. Usually a variety of groups in at the same time.
Tinsley Hall - Coed youth hall; many groups at once with different needs. Issues are usually limited to noise and cleanliness.
People we are looking for
Overall qualities we look for:
- Good public relations skills
- Pride for NAU and what the university stands for
- Ability to work within a very flexible schedule
- Ability to handle last minute changes
- Ability to work with many types of people
- Ability to work with stress in the job
- One class per summer session for Supervisor or Assistant Conference Managers (ACM), Conference Assistant (CA)
- Cumulative 2.5 GPA at the end of the spring semester
- Dates vary depending on the hall placement
