Can I take classes?
Supervisors or Assistant Conference Manager positions may take one class per session but we would prefer that they don't - we won't discourage them, but we won't encourage it either. Conference Assistants may take one class per session with supervisor approval. Housekeeper Supervisor and Conference Housekeepers may take online classes only due to the varying schedule of the job.
If I am returning, do I have to interview again?
If you are applying to return to the same position (whether in the same building or not) and there were no performance issues concerning your job last summer, you must submit an application but will not need to go through an interview. If you are applying for a supervisor position than what you had last summer, you will need to go through the interview process.
When will I know if I get an interview?
If an interview is necessary, you will be contacted by the dates indicated in the process timeline.
Can I pick the building I want to work in?
We look at people’s preferences and also our overall program needs to make the best decisions we can for the whole conference program. Even after being hired for a specific building, there will be times that staff members are required to help out in other buildings as staff members of the Conference Program.
How do I get paid?
You receive a total stipend for the summer, which is divided by the number of weeks you work during the summer and paid to you in the form of a paycheck every two weeks.
Can I work another job if I am a summer conference employee?
We strongly discourage outside employment with these positions, but if you can commit to the summer conference schedule first and your outside activities do not require permanent hours, then we may be willing to make exceptions in rare cases. If it is another on-campus job, it could only be for 10 hours because of campus payroll guidelines.
Do I get time off in this position?
There may be times when there is no check-ins or check-outs in your building or nothing to be cleaned on a particular day and you will have free time then. In addition, you receive 2 days off each month that you may request off. Your supervisor will handle the scheduling of those days.
What if I have other commitments (i.e. weddings, family reunions, etc.) that I have planned already?
Please list any obligations or commitments you may already have this summer in your application. This is not necessarily a deterrent in the hiring process, but we need to know if you'll need extended time off.
