Shotokan karate-do is a traditional Japanese martial art. Its preservation as an authentic Japanese martial art offers students of all backgrounds the chance to learn a facet of Japanese culture while striving for excellence in mind, body, and spirit. Exercises emphasize strength and flexibility development through traditional self defense exercises (kihon, kata, kumite). NAU Shotokan Karate Club offers students, faculty, staff and alumni the opportunity to study Shotokan karate and compete in kata (forms) and kumite (fighting) on the regional level.
