Bicycle Maintenance

Today's bicycles require special care and tuning. Keep your bicycle running smoothly by following a simple maintenance checklist. Flagstaff has many bicycle shops that can service your bicycle needs.

Maintenance Checklist

  • Saddle: With the ball of the foot on the pedal while it is in the lowest position, adjust the seat-height so that your legs bend only slightly. Tighten the seat securely.
  • Brakes: You must be able to make one braked skid on dry, level, or clean pavement.
  • Handlebars: Handlebar grips should be below your shoulder to allow safe maneuverability and control of your bicycle.
  • Pedals: Keep them greased. Replace pedals that do not have reflectors with ones that do.
  • Wheels and spokes: Keep wheels tight and replace broken spokes promptly. When in doubt take it to an expert.
