Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I forgot to move my permit to the vehicle I am driving today, how can I avoid being cited?
A: Twice a year we offer an "oops" permit at no additional cost for just this type of situation. If you have already received your two "oops" permits for this year, you may purchase a one day permit in our office for $5.00.
Q: Why can't I just drive and park where I want to - I have classes and an off-campus job and am very busy?
A: The size of our campus community and number of vehicles on campus each day has caused serious traffic congestion and pedestrian safety issues in the past. Drivers would spend more time driving and searching for a parking space. By designating parking areas during peak times it allows for all people on campus to travel more efficiently and safely.
Q: I own a south commuter permit but I use the Fieldhouse exercise equipment. Can I just park next to the Fieldhouse?
A: During the day the campus shuttle service can transport you from south campus to north campus. After 4:30 pm your south commuter permit may be used in lots as designated open to "all permits after 4:30pm" which includes most employee lots. You may also park in commuter lots which do not require a permit after 4:30 p.m.
Q: I am an employee but rarely drive to campus. I have an appointment this week and need to bring my car. How can I park near my office?
A: Simply come into our office on the day you need a permit. We can issue you an Employee day permit for $5.00.
Q: I received a citation for the first time, what should I do?
A:You may pay the citation on your LOUIE account. If you believe the citation was issued in error, you may submit an appeal online within 10 business days of the issue date through "Manage My Parking". The link to "Manage My Parking" may be found at www.nau.edu/parking.
Q: Should I order a full-year permit if I am not sure I will be returning in the Spring?
A: Full-year permits are more cost-efficient than ordering two semester permits. A full year permit for students on surface lots for 2011-2012 is $415. However, two semester permits will cost $622. If you will not be returning for the Spring semester, no refunds are issued for full-year permits. Please use your discretion when ordering your parking permit to ensure that you are not over-paying or paying for a permit you will not use.
If your intent to return for Spring is based on your waiting on an application for an NAU Study Abroad, NAU Internship program or NAU Student Teaching program, please contact our office prior to September 9, 2011 to request an exception.
