Biodiversity center opens
Northern Arizona University and the Arizona Board of Regents have established a new center on campus that will focus on biodiversity teaching and research, and the Colorado Plateau Biodiversity Center will introduce itself to campus next week with festivities featuring speakers and refreshments.

Student employment opportunities
If your student is looking for a job, he or she shouldn’t miss the 13th Annual Student Employment and Volunteer Fair. The event is a great opportunity to learn about employment and volunteer opportunities in the Flagstaff community. Students who attend will be entered in a raffle to win employer donations including bikes, iPods, cameras, gift cards, and more.
So help your student brush up his or her resume, and mark their calendar for Sunday, August 24 from noon–3 p.m. in the University Union Fieldhouse.
Parents' Association Night with the D-Backs
You can cheer on the Diamondbacks as they play the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, September 18, 2008, 6:40 p.m. at Chase Field in Phoenix. Meet other Northern Arizona University parents, the Parent and Family Programs Coordinator, and Louie the Lumberjack!
Tickets are available for $15 in Sections 136, 137 in the Bullpen Reserve, Left Field. We have reserved 100 seats on a first come first serve basis. All family and friends are welcome. Student health tip: adjusting to altitude
Living at 7,000 feet requires a big physical adjustment. The Flagstaff mountain air contains about 20% less oxygen than air at low altitudes. This change may leave your student feeling a little breathless when exercising, tired, and dehydrated. These tips may help prevent or decrease symptoms:

In addition, the intensity of the sun’s UV rays in Flagstaff is 25-35% greater than at low altitudes. To protect the skin, limit your time in the sun, wear sunscreen, and cover up with light colored clothes, a hat, and sunglasses. Tips provided by the Healthy Campus team.

Athletics Update: The Lumberjack connection
to Bejing
Former Lumberjack Lopez Lomong will compete in the 1,500 meters in Beijing in what is his first international appearance. He finished third at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Ore., with a time of 3:41.00. Read more….
