



Copper Giant Gives $500,000 to NAU for Science, Engineering
Copper mining giant Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, Inc. has donated $500,000 to Northern Arizona University to help boost science and engineering programs and promote interest in math and science among pre-college students.

Research building gets
LEED platinum status
Northern Arizona University is home to one of the three greenest facilities in the world after receiving a "platinum" rating for its Applied Research and Development building. The ARD building earned 60 points out of a possible 69 from the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design building rating system from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Doris Duke Foundation rewards future
conservation leaders
The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is setting its sights on Northern Arizona University for the next generation of environmental leaders. The foundation recently identified five students who are working toward a master of science in environmental sciences and policy as Doris Duke Conservation Fellows, an honor that not only targets them as future conservation leaders, but also offers research opportunities, tuition funding and a paid internship. in competition
A group of construction management students at Northern Arizona University is learning how to construct projects with sustainability in mind. The students were part of a team that participated in a recent competition where they applied Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design construction practices—more commonly referred to as LEED—to a real-life scenario. Important dates for students Mar–Apr: Housing Reapplication! Choose your room for next year! Student Athlete Spotlight Senior Sophia Choi carded a two-over-par 74 to finish second overall at the Red Rocks Invitational at Oak Creek Country Club Sunday. Choi finished one stroke back of Catherine Fortin of Eastern Michigan, who finished with rounds of 73 and 77 for a two-day total of 150. Choi led the Lumberjacks to a 318 team score for a 632 two-day total, six strokes off the pace set by Eastern Michigan. NAU finished third behind EMU and Western Michigan. Choi, the two-time Big Sky Player of the Year, enjoyed another brilliant fall, in addition to the Red Rock Invitational this past weekend. Sophia is a seven-time Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week winner and a three-time All-Big Sky selection during her tenure at NAU.

Big Sky Conference Tournament
Northern Arizona University Television Services will pickup the Altitude Sports broadcast of the Big Sky Conference Tournament semifinals with the Lumberjacks playing the highest remaining seed Tuesday, March 11 at 5:30 p.m. The game will be shown on Flagstaff cable channels 4 and 59, as well as the Universityhouse station (Dish Network 9411) and Fox College Sports Pacific (Digital Cable Channel 172 in Phoenix and Channel 146 in Flagstaff). The Big Sky Conference Tournament finals will be available nationally on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12. Read more...
