Reducing the Cost of PDAs for Nursing Students

Using Technology for the Most Updated Materials

The use of PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) is increasingly common among nursing programs across the nation.  PDAs can replace some printed materials that may be outdated by the time it is available.  The use of PDAs in the dynamic clinical learning situation makes available instant access to accurate drug information, lab values, textbook information, "clinical consultant" and/or web-based reviews of best evidence to support practice.  Besides the benefits of using PDAs in a learning environment, the expected use of integrating PDAs into daily nursing practice is on the rise.

Cost is one barrier to PDA ownership for many nursing students.  This grant will enhance the learning opportunity for our Northern Arizona University graduates to be better prepared for the workforce.

This project sill reduce the cost of purchasing a PDA for at least 60 students by $50.

The amount needed to make this grant possible is $3,150.
