A team of Northern Arizona University students and advisors from the “Engineers Without Boarders” program will travel to Northern Ghana to implement the first phase of a sustainable engineering project. Their goal is to incorporate culturally sustainable, off-the-grid energy technologies in the projects they build. Current designs include a small-scale hydroelectric generator, a photovoltaic solar well pump, solar electricity at the school, and a wind-powered sand filtration system.
This project has been incorporated into the civil engineering curriculum. A team of five seniors designed the water plaza that will be installed and a graduate student has adopted a wind- powered water filtration design for shallow wells. These projects have provided students with a hands-on opportunity to learn about sustainable design, implement their design, and fulfill an urgent need in a developing country.
Gifts to this project will be used send five students to Ghana. Additional funds will come from the individual students who will travel to Ghana
The amount still needed to make this project possible is $3,150.
