Providing our students with meaningful work on real world environmental issues instills in them the knowledge that they can make a difference and builds a sense of responsibility, confidence, respect, and empowerment. The Student Connections project is a monthly electronic newsletter that connects NAU students with regional environmental opportunities through a centralized listing of internships, paid and volunteer positions, service projects, funding sources, and other resources to enhance their environmental education.
Students who participate in the various hands on experiences listed in Student Connections will develop a greater appreciation for the concepts they learn in the classroom through application to real world projects. The direction of their careers will also be greatly refined to a much more specific field of interest. In addition, students who build relationships with regional environmental professionals while at NAU will have a tremendous advantage in their job search after graduation.
This grant would allow the Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Program the opportunity to develop and maintain the Student Connections newsletter and web page.
The amount still needed to make this project possible is $3,150.
