Developing Environmental Leaders

Environmental Solutions for our Future

The Northern Arizona University Strategic Plan includes a goal to use research to develop solutions in the area of the environment and sustainable systems.  A proven approach to reach that goal has been to develop environmental leaders from the ranks of our existing students through internships.

This project would create two internships.  One intern would work with Dining Services to find solutions to some of the waste and production issues which have had a huge impact on our environment.  The second intern would work toward the development of a “green purchasing” program to reduce the environmental impact of purchasing and transporting products the university uses.  The positive impact of this program will be widespread throughout the university and critical to NAU’s operational future.

The two interns will gain valuable experience in the field of sustainable institutional operations, which will increase their value and marketability in a world increasingly invested in “green collar” workers.

Gifts to this project will be used to fund both interns.

The amount still needed to make this project possible is $3,150.
