WILD VENTURES
Due to a lack of enrollment the WILD Ventures, the program will not run summer 2008. Sorry for the inconvience.
This program is a series of 3 weeklong day camp experiences and a JR NAU Outdoor Rafting Guide Trip for campers aged 13-15 to enable them to develop social, leadership, environmental awareness and technical skills through adventure programming in a fun and supportive environment. The individual weeks and the river trip are highlighted below:
Backpacking/Cooking July 16-20, 2007
NAU Student- $200 NAU Faculty- $225 Community- $250
Participants will be hiking various trails around the Flagstaff area and in doing so learn and practice the skills associated with Leave No Trace backpacking, and have the opportunity to use camping stoves to cook food while on the trail.
Outdoor Living/Survival Skills July 23-27, 2007
NAU Student- $200 NAU Faculty- $225 Community- $250
The participants will learn and practice the skills required to survive in the wilderness— fire and shelter building, basic first aid, emergency procedures, orienteering and water safety.
Mountain Biking July 30- Aug 3, 2007
NAU Student- $200 NAU Faculty- $225 Community- $250
Through hands-on experience and daily trail rides the participants will learn about the maintenance and repair of the basic equipment associated with mountain biking; trail riding skills, etiquette, hazards and Leave No Trace principles.
JR NAU Outdoor Rafting Guide Trip August 9-12, 2007
NAU Student- $450 NAU Faculty- $475 Community- $500
From rigging to rowing campers will be able to experience all aspects of a river trip on the beautiful San Juan River. This trip is the culmination of the program and will provide students an introduction to being a river guide.
