An interesting question to every facilitator on the NAU Challenge Course is, "What do you do?" If we reply with, "I work on the NAU Challenge Course," we are usually greeted with the response, "What is that?" After a lot of back and forth we usually break down and respond with "ropes course."
Many of our clients use "ropes course" to describe the experience that we provide but we see it a little differently. We see ourselves as a Challenge Course. There are a few key distinctions that we see between the two...
| Ropes Course | Challenge Courese |
|---|---|
| One time event | Continuing learning experience that can be repeated with varying outcomes |
| Physical challenge of endourance | Physical, emotional, and spiritual experience |
| Recreational experience | Learning experience |
| Participant is pushed to achieve goals | Participant is given opportunities to achieve goals |
We do see a value in the ropes course experience and sometimes even use our challenge course as a ropes course. We prefer to develop programming more in line with the challenge course philosophy. As you can tell, we love to have this conversation. If you are interested in the types of programming that we can provide for your organization, call us at 928-523-5010 or email challengecourse@nau.edu.
And as always, we look to see you out on the course!
