"Native Roots, Native Futures" Campaign

NAU has launched the Native Roots, Native Futures campaign which will:

  • Enhance the academic experience of native students
  • Improve retention and graduation rates
  • Enrich the campus community by increasing visibility of Native American cultures, traditions, and programs
  • Strengthen recruitment of Native American students, faculty and staff

Campaign goals include $7 million for the Native American Cultural Center and $2 million for scholarships and programs.

President John Haeger has generously invested $4 million in building construction. To date, $2,856,200 in individual gifts and pledges have come in to build the Native American Cultural Center, leaving $143,800 yet to be raised.  An additional $325,650 has been raised toward the $2 million goal for scholarships and programs, leaving $1,674,000 to raise.

Building
The dream of opening the Native American Cultural Center is a reality, and our goal of raising $3 million dollars for the building construction is almost met (only $143,800 left to raise!). With your help, we can achieve our goal by October 14 when the doors officially open.

Scholarships and Programs
The cost of a college education continues to increase and there is a need to develop and enhance programs to increase retention and help our students be successful.  An investment in a student scholarship is an investment in our future.

Won't you invest in the future of our Native American students? Give now.

NAU has launched the Native Roots, Native Futures campaign to raise $5 million to:

  • • Enhance the academic experience of native students
  • • Improve retention and graduation rates
  • • Enrich the campus community by increasing visibility of Native American cultures, traditions, and programs
  • • Strengthen recruitment of Native American students, faculty and staff

Our first goal is to design and build a Native American Cultural Center on the Flagstaff campus by fall semester 2011. To learn more about the campaign, click here.

Native American Cultural Center

Grand Opening, Silent Auction and Open House - Friday, October 14, 2011

The Native American Cultural Center will be a focal point and platform for the diverse traditions, perspectives and contributions of Native American culture on the NAU campus. Located adjacent to the student and the Cline Library, the Center will welcome students, scholars, tribal communities, the university community and the general public, providing opportunities to engage with and learn from each other.

A Home Away From Home

A "home away from home" for students, it will also house activities that support student recruitment and retention, serving as a point of contact for native groups on campus and programs involving NAU and the tribes. The Center will embody native values and will serve as a symbol of NAU's ongoing commitment to Native Americans, integrating native design features and sustainable design principles, with participation from students, alumni, faculty and staff.
