IMPORTANT! Planning to attend NAU requires that you at least begin 1 Year in advance to ensure you have time to apply for admission, be considered for campus housing (residence hall or family housing), and have a GOOD financial aid package. Last minute planning will increase stress and require you to work FAST! Avoid the stress and begin planning IN ADVANCE and be sure to ask lots of Questions and begin *SAVING MONEY*.
Review admission criteria for Northern Arizona University (Undergraduate Admissions).
Apply for admission and include official transcripts (high school, other colleges). Be sure to also submit the last and final transcript after one has graduated from high school and/or other college.
Inform your family of your educational and relocation plans (if applicable).
Discuss how you are planning to pay for college expenses with family. Begin applying for scholarships early as many have spring deadline dates.
Contact the Financial Aid office to make sure they received your FAFSA information from the Department of Education.
Contact your Tribal Scholarship office to apply and/or follow-up on your status.
Submit measles immunization record to the Fronske Health Center.
Decide where you want to live (on or off campus). Living in an on-campus residential hall is convenient, less costly, and you get to meet new people (see Residence Life). If you choose to live off-campus, account for extra travel time to classes and be prepared to pay deposits (first and last month's rent, utilities, phone, cable, etc.) if selecting an apartment or house.
Students with children should research the local school system regarding open enrollment dates, childcare centers, and healthcare (see Flagstaff Unified School District).
SAVE money for extra expenses (moving, gas, food, books, etc.) in case your financial aid has not been disbursed to you by the first week of classes in the fall/spring.
Seek help from the variety of NAU campus resources to ensure a smooth transition into the university environment and begin the path to reaching your educational goals.
Make an appointment with a NASS staff member to review this checklist and remain in contact with staff member and other key university departments to ensure you successfully make the transition to Northern Arizona University. We look forward to meeting with you and your family.
