Price shop for textbooks at local and online bookstores (University Text & Tools, NAU Bookstore).
Plan for extra time to get to classes (see NAU campus map) via walking, biking, driving, or taking the NAU Shuttle.
Students with a vehicle or bike should purchase a Parking permit from NAU Parking Services.
Read the class syllabus for each course and write due dates for assignments, quizzes, and exams in a planner or on a wall calendar for easy reference.
Plan a weekly schedule listing class times, study and exercise or hobby time, employment work hours, etc.
Make time to study (students enrolled in 12 credit hours should plan to devote at least 2 hours per credit hour or 24 hours a week of studying and reading).
If seeking part-time employment on or off campus, refer to employment listings (see Gateway Student Success Center and/or NAU Financial Aid).
If receiving financial aid (Pell, loans, etc.), you will need to maintain a minimum GPA every semester/term to continue receiving funding (see NAU Financial Aid).
If receiving tribal financial assistance, you must follow academic requirements (no repeat classes as part of the 12 credit hours, semester GPA must be at or above a 2.0 in most cases, apply every spring term for the next academic year funding).
Any type of federal and/or tribal funding received should be used toward educational expenses only (limit shopping sprees on clothes, music CDs, stereos, car purchases, lending money to family members, non-essential items).
Budget extra money (after all fees are paid) to pay for food, clothes, items needed for your classes, etc. from August to December OR from January to May.
If you are having difficulty with a class(es), seek assistance from your instructor, the North and/or South Learning Assistance Centers for tutoring, the Gateway Student Success Center and Native American Student Services offices to receive academic advising and to consider dropping a class before the drop deadline date.
