Preparing for Finals

A step-by-step approach when studying for finals

Prepare Yourself

PRIORITIZE - set realistic goals for your final grades

KNOW THE RULES - talk to the professor about your current standing,

and determine the exact score to receive the grade you want

ACCEPT YOUR LIMITS - be ready for a week or two of intensive

studying, and plan accordingly

Plan Ahead

DETERMINE WORKLOAD - what needs to be done to prepare?

MAKE A SCHEDULE - create a weekly schedule with designated study and free time. Set up a timetable for completing tasks. Some principles to follow:

break larger tasks apart - make a project more approachable and reward even small successes

take breaks - every 45 minutes after extensive review follow your normal

sleeping pattern, be sure to allow for exercise, eating, sleeping, and
                        special interests

                        attack the difficult tasks first

Study Smart

 EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE

Library time - you can accomplish three times more in a classroom

atmosphere than studying at home or in a dorm room

Quiet time - eliminate noisy distractions

Day time - during the day you work 50% faster than in the late evenings

Study actively - set goals and reward yourself for hard work

Diversify - use different study methods

Over-learning - after you think you already know it all take a nice break
                                                and
study for an hour more

Note-cards - proven to be one of the best methods for memorizing
                                            information,
flashcards

10 Things  To Do Over Winter Break

  1.  Make all the appointments you've been putting off.
  2. Pamper your car. First, hit the car wash.
  3. Visit your old friends, little cousins and grandparents.
  4. If you want that laptop to last you all four years, it needs some serious TLC.
  5. Go get your prescriptions renewed and fill them up at your hometown pharmacy.
  6. Get some much needed sleep.
  7. Convince mom and/or dad to go shopping with you...and "accidentally" forget your wallet.
  8. Spice up your old bedroom
  9. Switch your clothes.
  10. Most importantly, make sure to call (or at the very least text message, IM or Facebook wall post) your roommates and best friends from school so they don't feel neglected.
