The MSC also sponsors a variety of outreach programs and activities targeted toward new and returning students. Programs include:
Peer advisors are juniors, seniors, and graduate students working under the direction of the MSC. They work with students on a one-to-one basis to assist students with general transition issues, financial aid questions and to discuss satisfactory academic progress.
The center sponsors, coordinates and assists ethnic student clubs and organizations including fraternities and sororities in the promotion of cultural, recreational, and educational events.
The center assists in the coordination of a variety of scholarships from private donors including, the Coordinating Council for Mexican-American Affairs, and the Wilson Riles Fund.
The MSC educates and informs the NAU community on issues relevant to the students it serves. The center sponsors an open house for new and transferring multicultural students each semester and co-sponsors an annual reception for multicultural students. The staff of the center frequently participates in discussions on diversity awareness and the recruitment and retention of multicultural, first-generation, and low-income students.
The MSC provides select administrative services for student emergencies and to cultural clubs and organizations. These services include nominal use of telephone, fax and computers.
