“The MSC has been a wonderful resource for me. I can use the computers, print papers, meet with my peer advisor, or just chill with my friends. It is a convenient place for me to spend time between my classes and do homework.”

Welcome

The Multicultural Student Center (MSC) is a safe and inclusive multicultural community that prepares students for global leadership, support, and advocacy through education. Our goal as a department is to provide culturally-relevant services and support to historically underrepresented students. We promote student success through academic, personal and cultural growth. Located in the LEADS Center of the University Union, the MSC provides an access point into the NAU higher education community and develops leaders that enrich our diverse society.

One of the primary functions of the MSC is to coordinate the Successful Transition and Academic Readiness (STAR) program. It is a five-week summer bridge program used in conjunction with our peer advisor program. It is offered to a selected group of incoming freshman from underrepresented backgrounds. This program helps these students with the academic processes of the university that are vital to their success.

In addition to our signature STAR Program, the MSC is also a strong campus partner for diversity events and activities. The department sponsors campus and community activities, like the annual Martin Luther King program, Heritage months and convocations, and Multicultural Kids Day in addition to student development workshops and community outreach programs fascilitated by the MSC staff.

Inside the LEADS Center the MSC houses a resource library with ethnic and cultural books, magazines, and study guides for professional programs, student work areas, and a comfortable commons. Professional and student services such as advisement and printing services are just like the coffee, always free of charge!
