The Department of Humanities, Arts, and Religion presents many events in the course of the academic year.
Perhaps our biggest event is the Cline Lecture in the Humanities. Established by Platt Cline, Flagstaff and NAU historian and newspaper editor, this endowment brings major speakers from around the world to Flagstaff every year. Our speakers have included: Ashley Montagu, Jacques Barzun, Betty Friedan, Robert Pattison, Bruce Babbitt, Carlos Fuentes, Charles Peters, Gary Wills, Thomas Sowell, Lucy Lippard, Arthur Schlesinger Jr., Sandra Day O'Connor, Jeremy Rifkin, Anne Matthews, Barry Lopez, Gary Snyder, Sandra Cisneros, Sherman Alexie, Mark Moffett, Vandana Shiva, Ken Wiwa, and Andrei Codrescu. Regents Professor Curtis Hinsley will be directing the search for the speaker in 2006.2007.
Our film series, detailed in another section, provides classic films, every Tuesday night at 7:00pm in the Cline Library Auditorium.
Each year we also offer lectures, workshops, student receptions and more. Watch this space, as they say, for announcements.
