Training with Team Altius has made a huge difference in my running. I have been running and racing for the past 10 years on my own and this year, after training with Team Altius, I have run my fastest 10k, set a PR in the Marathon and, most importantly, met and made good friends with some of the best people living and training in Flagstaff.

TEAM ALTIUS

The Center for High Altitude Training operates a year-round running club called TEAM ALTIUS. TEAM ALTIUS, a member organization of USA Track & Field, supports the center’s mission:

The Center for High Altitude Training is committed to helping dedicated athletes excel, by providing comprehensive, world-class support services and educational opportunities in a unique mountain environment.

The name TEAM ALTIUS is derived from the Olympic Motto: Citius, Altius, Fortius. The motto translates more commonly in English to Swifter, Higher, Stronger.

OPEN TO:

  • Youth -- TEAM ALTIUS provides a structure where youth can get introduced to sport and develop a love of running. With youth workouts offered twice weekly, young runners can participate in a regular schedule of group training. For young runners who are involved in school-based programs, TEAM ALTIUS provides off-season and specialized training opportunities.
  • Adults -- TEAM ALTIUS provides an opportunity for adult runners to receive training from the center’s coaching staff. Recognizing that many adult runners wish to train on their own, services to adult runners are more individualized. Adults have an opportunity to meet once a week if desired. Many choose to receive multi-week workouts to be carried out on their own.
  • Families -- TEAM ALTIUS allows families who run to be a part of the same team and work toward common goals.
  • Coaches -- TEAM ALTIUS provides an opportunity for coaches to encourage their runners to continue training in the off-season periods. During the competitive season, TEAM ALTIUS coaches are available to consult with area coaches as needed. Local coaches have an opportunity to become a Volunteer Coach with TEAM ALTIUS. The Center for High Altitude Training offers coaching education opportunities throughout the year, at a discount to TEAM ALTIUS members.
  • Emerging Elite and Elite Runners -- TEAM ALTIUS is a USATF-member club and any unaffiliated runners are welcome to join the club and to race for TEAM ALTIUS.
