The training center's Community Olympic Development Program (CODP) is a year-round, sport-specific youth training program operating on a grassroots level and extending outward to target youth ages 10 to 18. The purpose of the CODP, a program of the U.S. Olympic Committee, is to develop a community initiative in Olympic sport to create a clear pathway of athlete development and increase sport participation in the selected community. The Center for High Altitude Training currently provides training through the CODP in the Olympic sport of distance running.
Team Altius
The training center operates a year-round running club called TEAM ALTIUS. TEAM ALTIUS, a member organization of USA Track & Field, derives its name from the Olympic Motto: Citius, Altius, Fortius. The motto translates to: Faster, Higher, Braver, or more commonly in English to Swifter, Higher, Stronger.

Intro Altitude Camps for Youth
The training center offers 3-day Introductory Altitude Camps for high school teams, club teams, and their coaches. This offering is a part of the training center’s Community Olympic Development Program and primarily is geared toward cross-country runners, and track athletes, 800m and up. Teams in other sports are welcome to take part in an Introductory Altitude Camp if the camp offerings fit their training goals.
The purpose of the Introductory Altitude Camp is to provide an opportunity for coaches to bring their young athletes to Northern Arizona University to learn how elite athletes train and to get a participatory glimpse of their daily training schedule.
Teams wishing to stay in the campus residence halls may schedule their visit any time from June 1 to July 31. Teams open to staying in a nearby hotel at a discounted rate may come at any time of the year. All bookings are pending availability of the training center’s Head Distance Coach, Dr. Jack Daniels. Each group is responsible for bringing enough staff and/or chaperones to provide at least one adult for every 10 runners.

Junior Olympic Skills Competition
Local youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 have the opportunity to participate in the Junior Olympic Skills Competition. This free grassroots youth participation program allows boys and girls, competing separately, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in four athletic events—basketball, soccer, tennis and track and field. The program is designed to encourage youth participation in sport while promoting sportsmanship.
