Sorority Recruitment

Introduction

Fall 2009 Sorority Recruitment Dates:

  • NPC Sororities: September 4-8, 2009
  • NALFO Sororities: September 14-20, 2009

Fall Recruitment is a formalized process that gives interested participants the opportunity to visit with each chapter about their values, philanthropic endeavors, and sisterhood activities. Through a mutual selection process women choose the organization that is right for them.

Who is eligible to participate in Sorority Recruitment?

To be eligible to participate in recruitment, women must have a 2.75 cumulative high school GPA or a 2.5 cumulative college GPA (a minimum of 12 completed college credit hours are required) and be registered as a full-time student at NAU.

What should a participant expect?

Registration for Sorority Recruitment will be on-line starting July 1, 2009 and costs $35.00 (which covers snacks, rental fees, supplies, etc.). The Recruitment process will take place over Labor Day Weekend, September 4-8, 2009.Fall SororityRecruitment is a structured week of activities designed to help participants learn about the experiences and benefits our sororities can offer. During this week participants will be taken through an Information/Orientation Night, Philanthropy Night, Sisterhood and Values Night, Preference Night, and finally, Bid Day. It is important that women attend all nights of the recruitment process because each night is designed to show women something different, from the type of academic programs/support offered, to community service events, to social opportunities. Participants should “Dress to Pin” each evening, with the exception of Orientation/Information Night and Bid Day where jeans and t-shirts are encouraged. Dressing to Pin simply means we ask women to wear nice trousers, skirts, or a casual dress each evening.

Financial obligations

Sorority dues average about $325.00/semester, which pays for sisterhood events, insurance, house or parlor fees for the upkeep of the chapter rooms, and national organization dues. Some organizations have a one time fee for new members in their first semester of involvement, which pays for initiation costs, membership manuals, and a membership badge. Our fraternities and sororities do offer payment plans to assist students in meeting these financial obligations. Questions regarding specific fees (and how this money is spent) for each organization should be directed to the individual sorority. It is important to note that members do not have to pay dues after graduating from college, but will continue to reap the benefits of lifelong membership (involvement with alumni chapters, publications from national organization, and networking with fellow sisters from across the world).
