How to Volunteer with RSVP Literacy Activities

Senior Corps RSVP

RSVP Literacy Coaches:

RSVP for Children’s Literacy places volunteers, age 55 and older, into classrooms throughout Northern Arizona to assist with children’s reading skills. Through this project, older adults are able to invest in the future of a child's education.

Activities include:
Reading with individual or small groups of beginning readers (K-3), in classrooms. Training is provided. Must be willing to have background checks and fingerprints done.

Time required:
It is expected volunteers serve a minimum of one morning a week (1.5- 2 hours) for classroom consistency. This activity takes place during the school year, (August to early June)

Skills and qualities needed:
Patience, flexibility, love of reading and enjoy working with struggling often disadvantage children. Classrooms can be stimulating environments.

Schools currently partnering with RSVP for Children's Literacy:

Clink on the the school to access their website, for contact information and school calendars.

Kindercamp:

RSVP volunteers serve as summer story book readers to five year olds at the Pathways to Learning Kindercamp. Volunteers work one on one with next year’s kindergarteners as they attend this literacy camp. This activity takes place in FUSD elementary schools for five weeks during the summer.

Activities include:
Reading with individual or small groups of children age 5. Training is provided. Must be willing to have background checks and fingerprints done.

Time required:
It is expected volunteers serve one morning or more a week (1.5-2 hours) for consistency.

Skills and qualities needed:
Patience, flexibility, love of reading and enjoy working with young children.
