The File of Life is a 3x5 red plastic, magnetic file folder that attaches to the refrigerator.  It contains vitally important information about the bearer so that emergency response personnel have access to personal medical information.

NAU RSVP of Northern Arizona Volunteers are distributing the File of life and the Emergency Beacon Adapter to Coconino County. Emergency medical personnel in this county have been trained to look for the File of Life and Emergency Beacons.

Mark Venuti, the director of Guardian Ambulance in Flagstaff says, "I think it's a great program - it makes the whole process run more smoothly. We don't take extra time to either find or figure out the information listed."

The File of Life is not just for emergencies; it can be used at doctor's appointments or the pharmacy. As one Flagstaff File of Life user put it, "Sometimes it is hard to remember what medications I am on for what."

File of Life pocket

Each File of Life includes the following information:

  • Your Name
  • Insurance Policy Information
  • Medication you take and Dosages
  • Allergies
  • Medical Conditions
  • Blood Type
  • Emergency Contacts
  • Physicians' Name
  • Preferred Hospital
  • Living Will location

The Emergency Beacon Adaptor

  • The Emergency Beacon Adaptor is a small adaptor which screws into your porch light or in a front entrance window.
  • Screw a regular light bulb into the adaptor and switch it on twice - the light becomes a life-saver!
  • The flashing light shows neighbors and EMS personnel where the emergency is. This is perfect for dark county neighborhoods.
  • Always call 911 first and let dispatch know you have an emergency beacon.
