Notes: This is our 2008 Family Weekend schedule of events. We will be posting the 2009 schedule of events here as soon as possible!

Friday, October 3, 2008
6 AM–9 PM
Enjoy free use of Recreation Center Facilities (guests 14 years and older, youth under 18 must be supervised by a parent, guardian or NAU student), including the weight room, basketball courts, and more (bldg. 25).
8 AM–5 PM
The NAU Bookstore is offering card-holding Parent's Association members a 20% discount on regularly priced clothing, gift, and general book purchases. Free Lumberjack Spirit Items will be given to customers at the main store while supplies last (bldg. 35).
11:30 AM–1:15 PM
Open Swim: Swim where Olympians swim! Take a free dip at the Wall Aquatic Center, one of the finest high altitude swimming facilities anywhere in the world with an Olympic-size pool and state-of-the-art aquatics technology. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult (bldg. 21a).
Noon–5 PM
NAU Art Museum. The Marguerite Hettel Weiss Collection is displayed on Old Main’s third floor. This diverse collection includes paintings and sculptures by noted twentieth-century Mexican and American artists such as Diego Rivera and Francisco Zuniga and turn-of-the-century furniture and antiques. Old Main (bldg. 10).
4–5 PM
Small Group Training at the Recreation Center. Do you like working out with friends? Do you enjoy challenging workouts? Want new workout ideas? Join Molly Mulligan, and one out our certified personal trainers for a workout with friends/family members and enjoy a challenging, full body weight training workout that will get your heart racing, your blood pumping and keep your motivation levels high! This workout is free, but spots are limited. To register or questions please contact the Rec Center Front Desk 928 523-1733!
7–8:30 PM
Parents' Association Reception. All parents and students are welcome to this free event. Don't miss this opportunity to meet other parents while enjoying hors d'oeuvres and other refreshments. Applied Research and Development building (bldg. 56).
7–9 PM
Flagstaff Festival of Science: Hotspots (this is a community event held on campus). This new film takes you to exotic parts of the world to investigate some of the last know populations of rare animals on the verge of extinction. Narrator Russell Mittermeier of Conservation International tells the story of these remnant populations in biologically rich areas. Hotspots will air on PBS in 2009. This pre-release screening will be hosted by its award-winning director Michael Tobias and NAU professor Dr. Con Slobodchikoff. Cline Library (bldg. 28).
7:30–10 PM
Flagstaff Festival of Science: Zoom into Planets, Stars, nebulae and Galaxies (this is a community event held on campus). Northern Arizona University’s newly remodeled campus observatory with its new 20 inch telescope will be open for you to zoom into the heavens! Astronomic Research Observatory (bldg. 47)

Undergraduate Showcase. Students showcase various academic projects and presentations they have designed and implemented. University Union, Havasupai rooms (bldg.30).

Zumba at the Recreation Center. You and your family should take advantage of the fitness phenomenon that is taking the world by storm! It’s a fusion of Latin and international music and dance themes creating a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness experience! The routines feature aerobic fitness with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. It’s a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy-to-follow dance steps perfect for anyone with or without dance experience!! The class is free, come Zumba with us!
12:30–2:30 PM

3–4 PM
Beginning Swim Clinic at the Wall Aquatic Center. Aqua Fusion is a hands-on guide to the Wall Aquatic Center Experience. You and your family will learn about the opportunities for swimming and recreation that await you. In this free class you will discover the do’s and don’ts of lap swimming, proper swimming etiquette as well as proper swimming technique and training practices. This experience will prepare you to enjoy the opportunities offered at the world renowned Wall Aquatic Center, training site for some of the best International Olympic Teams in the world. Come swim “Where the World Comes to Train”, no prior registration required.
3:05 PM
Family Weekend Football Game: Lumberjacks vs. Sacramento State. Walkup Skydome. Tickets required and available at the door, call 928-523-5661 (bldg. 73).
6–9 PM
Casino Nite Dinner. Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) students roll out a gourmet hot-plated dinner with flair, showing their enthusiasm in spades. All food production and casino games operated by HRM students. To see the menu, click here. Tickets are required and available at the door—du Bois Center Ballroom (bldg. 64).
6 PM–MIDNIGHT
Family Weekend Casino Nite and Silent/Live Auction. Play some chips for scholarships, with all proceeds from the event benefiting Hotel and Restaurant Management students. Try your luck at more than 70 blackjack, craps, roulette, poker and Texas Hold-em tables, as well as bingo games and more. Bid on hundreds of great prizes at the silent/live auction. Tickets are required and and available at the door—du Bois Center Ballroom (bldg. 64).
7 PM
Volleyball Game: Lumberjacks vs. Eastern Washington Eagles. Show your support and wear white for the "Blizzard" game. Free admission for everyone. Rolle Activity Center (bldg. 68).

Family Weekend Brunch/Parents' Association Raffle, du Bois Center Ballroom. Students, families, and friends are invited to join university administrators, faculty, and staff for brunch. The Parents' Association will have a raffle for scholarships and other prizes throughout the brunch. Tickets required and available at the door (bldg. 64).
10 AM–2 PM

7:30–10 PM
