NAU offers several degrees with an environmental focus, but CESE is unique in drawing from many departments to create environmental degree programs that are multi-disciplinary. We also recognize that each individual is different, so we offer degrees that can be tailored precisely to your interests, talents and needs.
Our ten core faculty have split appointments between Environmental Sciences and Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Political Science, and Quaternary Sciences. Other teaching and advising faculty come from the Departments of Communication, Education, Forestry, Political Science, and Humanities, Arts & Religious Studies.
CESE emphasizes field studies in all of our core courses. We offer individualized, field-oriented, faculty-directed research and training, and off-campus internships for our undergraduate and graduate majors. We promote multi-disciplinary initiatives with adjunct faculty in federal agencies and with joint appointments of our core faculty in other academic departments.
To ensure the best research opportunities for our students, to advance the state of their own disciplines, and to contribute to the effective stewardship of our environment, faculty maintain respected, externally funded research programs.
