Research & Internships
No matter what your degree program or focus area, you can take advantage of the many opportunities available at NAU to study the environment in a non-classroom setting.
Research opportunities may be found in CESE's own Soil Ecology Lab, Conservation Biology Lab, and Laboratory of Paleoecology. Students also have access to the Laboratory of Quaternary Paleontology, Isotopic Analysis Laboratory, USGS-NAU Macrobotanical Laboratory, and the Amino Acid Geochronology Laboratory.
The Flagstaff campus hosts several research groups that hire students, offer internships, and/or sponsor research, including the Ecological Restoration Institute, Merriam Powell Center for Ecosystem Research, and the Center for Sustainable Environments.
Students from diverse backgrounds with an interest in Environmental Biology should consider the Undergraduate Mentoring in Environmental Biology scholarship-mentoring program (UMEB).
NAU is also home to federal environmental researchers from the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Geological Survey. These scientists commonly involve students in their research.
