Other Environmental Degree Programs at NAU

Majors in Biological Sciences and in Forestry can include coursework in ecology and in the biological components of ecosystems.

Majors in Chemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Geology focus on the physical and chemical components of ecosystems (air, water, soil and rock).

Majors in Parks and Recreation Management and in Political Science apply the social sciences to environmental management and administration. An emphasis or minor in Geographic Information Systems through the Geography and Public Planning Department provides the expertise to utilize state-of-the-art technology in spatial information management.

NAU has a large number of undergraduate environmental courses which you can take whether or not you are one of the environmental majors. The Merriam-Powell Center for Environmental Research maintains a Directory of NAU Environmental Courses and Programs.

The Center for Sustainable Environments (CSE) serves as a connection for environmentally-focused problem solving in education for:

  • Developing community education products and initiatives
  • Training the professional workforce
  • Providing guidance and technical assistance to regional educators
  • Fostering student involvement in environmental projects and activities
