

Defining words and phrases is essential for a full understanding of any new program. The terms defined below are used in implementing
Class Fees - Class Fees are those fees charged in addition to tuition for certain courses to help recover costs associated with materials required for those courses or the delivery of instruction.
Continuing Students - Students enrolled at Northern Arizona University in spring 2008 and who continue their enrollment in fall 2008 and have not previously requested to participate in The Pledge.
Continuing Tuition Rate - The tuition rate paid by students who were enrolled at Northern Arizona University in spring 2008 and continue their enrollment fall 2008. There is a separate Continuing Tuition Rate for resident students, non-resident students, and students eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program. Each year the Arizona Board of Regents will set new tuition rates for Continuing Students for the following year.
Degree-seeking Students - Students who, through his or her application (or re-application) to Northern Arizona University, indicate his or her intention to earn an undergraduate degree from Northern Arizona University.
Full-time for Tuition Purposes - Seven (7) undergraduate credit hours considered is full-time for tuition purposes for Arizona residents. Twelve (12) undergraduate credit hours per semester is considered full-time for tuition purposes for non-Arizona residents. Please note: There are different requirements for being considered full-time for financial aid and for academic progress.
Part-time - The University provides a variety of programs to extend educational opportunities to students who wish to enroll on a part-time basis (6 units or fewer). Please note: There are different per semester credit hour requirements for financial aid and for academic progress.
Mandatory Fees - Mandatory Fees are those fees charged to all students to support services and programs and include but are not limited to the student health and wellness fee, the activity fee, the technology fee, and the Arizona Financial Aid Trust fee.
New Freshmen - Students who start at Northern Arizona University immediately after graduating from high school or who have fewer than twelve credits from another college or postsecondary institution or through advanced placement.
New Transfer Students- Students who enroll at Northern Arizona University for the first time in the summer or fall of 2008 after having completed twelve or more credits at another college or postsecondary institution.
Our Pledge Tuition Rates - The Pledge Tuition Rate is the fixed four-year (eight consecutive academic fall and spring terms) rate that all new undergraduate degree-seeking resident and non-resident students will pay beginning with the fall 2008 semester. There is a separate Pledge Tuition Rate for resident students, non-resident students, and students eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program. Continuing students may request to pay The Pledge Tuition Rate by completing The Pledge Tuition Plan for Continuing Students Request form and submitting it to the Registrar’s Office.
Post Baccs - Students who have completed a bachelor’s degree prior to fall 2008, either at Northern Arizona University or another postsecondary institution.
Re-admits - Students who previously attended Northern Arizona University but have not attended for three consecutive semesters or more and have re-applied for admission.
Our Pledge Term - Beginning fall 2008, The Pledge Term is the eight consecutive fall and spring semesters for which students are guaranteed The Pledge Tuition Rate. The Term begins the first semester new undergraduate students enroll on the Flagstaff campus. Enrollment is considered any hours greater than zero that are paid for regardless of final grade. For continuing students, The Pledge Term will begin the semester for which they sign The Pledge request form.
