"The college trips helped by opening my eyes and exposing me to different colleges both in Arizona and out of state."
- April Silas (Hopi HS Graduate 2011), Northern Arizona University
In order to provide uninterrupted services to our students throughout their high school careers, we added a monthly Portfolio component. An Upward Bound student who enrolls in and completes the Portfolio Program can receive ongoing services throughout high school.
The Portfolio units were created in order to assist our students with their postsecondary education and subsequent career pursuits. Our intent is to keep our students focused and on track for postsecondary education -- not to add "busy work" to their already hectic schedules.
Students participate in the Portfolio Program after completing their first year of Summer Academy. Upward Bound students receive 6 Portfolio units each year, and, with the successful completion of each unit, are eligible for a $40 stipend.
Sophomore and junior Portfolio student in good academic standing are invited to attend the spring college visitation trip. Senior Portfolio students in good academic standing are invited to attend the summer college visitation trip. All Portfolio students in good academic standing are also eligible for any cultural and leadership activites planned by Upward Bound.
Students must sign a Portfolio Contract at the beginning of the academic year. This contract is a record of the student's commitment to Upward Bound and the Portfolio Program. It will also act as a progress report for students and families to see how well the student is doing on portfolio completion.
