ACADEMIC ADVISING SERVICES

Open 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday  

Provides assistance to help students stay in good academic standing with the University, can assist students:

  • learn to “read” the NAU transcript and calculate semester and cumulative GPA’s
  • learn NAU policies on repeating courses for grade improvement
  • answer questions about academic probation and suspension
  • organize a plan of attack to insure good academic standing

CAREER SERVICES

Career Service’s counselors and peer advisors utilize the SIGI-Plus computer guidance program and/or individual assistance in generating possible career choices. Workshops and individual counseling are available to assist in resume writing, interviewing and creating a job search plan.  Company recruiters hold on-campus interviews each semester for NAU students and alumni.  Career Days are held once each semester, providing opportunities for discussion with employers and interviews when appropriate.

The purpose of the University Counseling and Testing Center is to assist enrolled NAU students in their adjustment to the University experience, resulting in student persistence toward an academic degree.  Services include individual and small group counseling which are available to regularly enrolled students.  Adjustment to college, vocational and life goals, interpersonal and family concerns, and stress and time management are some of the concerns that can be addressed through counseling services.  First appointment is free; follow-up appointments cost $10 each.  The University Counseling and Testing Center also administers ACT, CLEP, GRE, LSAT, GMAT, etc.

DISABILITY SUPPORT SERVICES

Special services for students with disabilities are available by contacting Disability Support Services (DSS). Students are advised to provide documentation of a disability to DSS at least eight (8) weeks prior to attending NAU, so that arrangements can be made to meet individual needs. Any concerns related to noncompliance with the American with Disabilities Act may be brought to the attention of a DSS coordinator.  Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.  Questions may be directed to Disability Support Services, P.O. FINANCIAL AID

Provides assistance to all financially needy students throughout each academic year.  The staff focuses outreach efforts on helping student and parents with forms completion, budgeting information and debt management skills.  Scholarships, Veterans’ Services and On-Campus Employment are also offered through the office located on the 3rd floor of the Gammage Administration Building.  The Job Location Services extension office in the University Union will assist student in locating off-campus employment year-round.

FRONSKE HEALTH CENTER

An outpatient health facility staffed by a full complement of doctors, nurse practitioners, and health educators.  Practitioners’ services are free to students who are registered for seven or more credit hours. Part-time students pay a users fee. Routine lab, x-ray, and pharmacy services are also provided.

Designed to help students reach their individual academic goals and become independent learners, LACs provide:

  • content specific tutoring in individualized appointments, walk-in labs and study groups
  • computer labs and literacy training
  • specialized instruction and assessment for reading and study skills improvement
  • specialized instruction and a lab for students with learning disabilities
  • study skills development workshops and videotapes
  • online tutoring

Designed to help low-income, first generation and/or physically or learning disabled students become adjusted to campus life and the rigors of academic study, this office provides the following services to qualified students:

  • one-on-one academic advising through to graduation
  • development of academic skills including time management, study strategies and test preparation
  • extended one-on-one weekly appointments with tutors at the LAC
  • career counseling
  • financial aid and scholarship application assistance; additional grant $$$ for eligible students
  • cultural activities and informational workshops
  • laptop loan program

MULTICULTURAL STUDENT CENTER

The Multicultural Student Center assists student from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds to establish and meet their educational and personal goals.  At the Center, students may receive personal assistance in areas dealing with academic advisement, counseling, financial aid, scholarship assistance and/or information.  Students are also aided in their adjustments to the university environment by peer advisers in the Center.  The Center works with faculty and staff to educate and promote understanding of multicultural student needs.  The Center is both a resource area and a place for students to meet and interact.  Staff members work closely with other Student Services departments and faculty in providing the highest quality services to NAU students.

NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENT SERVICES (NASS)

The Native American Student Services (NASS) works one-on-one with new First and Second year Native American Freshmen and Transfer students; assisting students in developing or improving the academic, social and personal skills necessary for success at the university level.  Program services include assistance with course selection; registration; academic planning; financial aid and scholarships; social, club, and leadership opportunities.
