Welcome from President John D. Haeger,

I am pleased that you have chosen to visit the Northern Arizona University diversity web site, designed as a clearinghouse of information about diversity-related curriculum, organizations, opportunities and events important to the NAU community.

NAU defines diversity as the whole of the human experience. The human experience is marked by its complexity, shaped by historical, social, economic and political phenomena, and is characterized by differences. I hope you will visit this site often and take advantage of the many opportunities to celebrate diversity at NAU.

We have received a number of recognitions that demonstrate our commitment to diversity and student success. In its 2007 annual report recognizing institutions that have conferred the largest number of degrees to minority students, Diverse Issues in Higher Education ranked Northern Arizona University first in the nation in producing Native American master's degrees, sixth in the nation for graduating Native Americans with bachelor's degrees and 61st in the nation for graduating Latinos with bachelor's degrees. NAU also ranked 10th for degrees in education for all minorities.

The American Association of State Colleges and Universities identified NAU as one of 11 publicly funded institutions nationwide that have proven effective in graduating Latino students.

Additionally, NAU's branch campus in Yuma, shared with Arizona Western College, is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution.

Institutional data and analysis regarding NAU student, faculty and staff demographics is updated annually.

Thank you for your interest in Northern Arizona University.
