Construction Management Department News

March 2008

CM professors Steve Mead and John Tingerthal are leading and Engineers Without Borders expedition to Terrapa Mexico to begin construction on a series of building projects that support the community and NAU's ongoing scientific relationship (digging up bones) with the local community. More to follow.

February 2008

NAU CM students place second in two of the three competition divisions we entered. The NAU CM Commercial and Heavy Highway student competition teams placed second in the regional competitions held in Sparks, Nevada. Our LEED team's first effort failed to make the podium but we are proud of all our competitors. This marks the seventh straight year we have taken first, second or third in one or more divisions in the regionals. Our best showing, to date, was a second place at the national competitions.

June 2007

Assistant Professor Greg Ohrn assists in Tornado disaster relief in Greensburg Kansas.

Working for CH2M Hill, Greg is helping to develop temporary housing for victims of the F5 tornado that devastated their town in  May.

During his 30 year industry career Greg has worked on several FEMA operations.

NAU CM team places second in the AZ Masonry Guild's "It makes a village" This annual competion pits teams of professional architects and masonry firms against each other. NAU's team working with apprentice masons is the only non-professional design team.

NAU CM announces the Ballew Endowment for scholarships for Native American CM students. Each year, four upper class native American students will receive partial scholarships. This endowment is expected to increase significantly in the future. NAU CM department is the leading accredited program serving Native American construction management students.

Annual student alumni banquet held at the Radisson Woodlands hotel, honoring our graduating seniors.

NAU CM Hosts 43rd annual international Associated Schools of Construction meetings.

February 2007

NAU Heavy Civil Team takes second place in the ASC Region VI competition in Reno Nevada. BYU placed first with Colorado State University placing third.  For six straight years NAU teams have placed in one or more divisions at the annual regional competition. Including two first place finishes in the commercial construction division.
