Service Code Definitions
Academic Support (AAS, ESP-SSS, NASS)
Assistance with class selection, major/ minor status, degree and liberal arts requirements, academic standing, midterm grade reports, advising, and the student readiness inventory
Academic Coursework (CTC, CR, FHC, NASS, RL, SL)
Students enrolled in courses taught or supported by student affairs staff, including internships for credit or fieldwork for credit
Afterhours (UA)
A weekly Friday Night program presented in the University Union free of charge for NAU Students
BF Scholars Membership List (MSC)
From academic year 01-02 to academic year 04-05, the 19 students annually who are BF Scholar recipients, specific to the Multicultural Student Center.
Career and Employment Activities (CR, CS, ESP-SSS, NASS)
Employer visits and one on one or group activities (e.g., Career Services outreach, NASS advising prior to referral to Career Services) that provide a broad overview of career and employment related information
Diversity (MSC, RL, SL, NASS, SSS)
Programs or activities that attempt to broaden student understanding regarding issues associated with difference. Examples of these programs include those designed to educate students about various ethnic groups (e.g. cultural heritage week programs), promote international understanding, increase awareness about gay, lesbian, and bisexual issues, present diverse ways of perceiving world/societal issues, etc.
Educational Opportunity Centers (ESP)
A former participant in an Educational Opportunity Center attending NAU in the semester noted in “Semester Code”
Educational Talent Search (ESP)
A former Educational Talent Search participant attending NAU in the semester noted in “Semester Code”
Financial (ESP-SSS, MSC, NASS)
Programs or activities designed to educate students on FAFSA/Financial Aid, budgeting, money management, financial planning, scholarship searches, visiting tribal representatives, emergency funds, or other financial topics
Fitness Programs Pass Membership List (CR)
Semester pass for purchase that allows access to supplemental recreation services such as group exercise or weight training
Health and Wellness Education (CR, NASS)
Programs or activities designed to educate students on mental, physical, and emotional health and well-being
Leadership/Citizenship (CS, ESP-SSS, MSC, RL, SL, NASS)
Programs and activities designed to promote and develop a variety of skill sets such as civic responsibility, community membership, decision-making, organizational skills, communication, critical thinking, ethics, supervision, etc.
Living/Learning Community (RL) Membership List
On-campus resident of a living and learning community AND/OR member of an on-campus Greek letter community; examples include Ed House resident, Sigma Chi fraternity member living in Mt View Hall
Nizhoni
A former Nizhoni participant attending NAU in the semester noted in “Semester Code”
Native American Scholars Programs (NASS)
Support programs for first year Native American students who participate in Navajo Scholars Program (ended spring 2004), Hopi Scholars program (ended spring 2004), NASS scholars programs.

Programs or activities provided in educational topics not listed in Service Codes
Outdoor Recreation (CR)
Programs, trips, and classes on/in the outdoors. Prior to fall 2005, outdoors included students participating for credit; from fall 2005 forward students participating for credit will be accounted for under academic coursework
Peer Mentoring (CR, ESP-SSS, MSC, NASS)
Personal contacts students have with peers concerning personal or academic matters and general advice. These contacts are distinct from academic advising or career counseling in that they cover a broader range of topics/issues, but may include some advising and career counseling.
Personal Advising (CR, ESP-SSS, MSC, NASS)
Personal contacts students have with staff concerning non-academic matters or general advice. These contacts are distinct from academic advising or career counseling in that they cover a broader range of topics/issues, but may include some advising and career counseling.
Resident Membership List (RL)
On-campus resident
Resident Assistant Membership List (RL)
Student employee of Residence Life assigned to live among residents and assist a floor or wing with on-campus residents
Resource Use (CS, ESP, MSC, NASS, RL)
Office use of computers/software, publications, internet/website, and other resources as well as contact with office staff for referrals and visiting representatives of community services
Student Support Services Membership List
SSS students in the Federal Grant program have a sub-service code of "FED". SSS students in the State program have a sub-service code of "STA".
Social Activity (ESP-SSS, NASS, RL, SL, UA)
Programs and/or activities designed to bring students together within a social environment/context. These programs include entertainment activities, social receptions, barbecues, dances, etc.
Sport Intramurals (CR) Membership List
Fee-based seasonal sports programs (e.g., soccer, basketball) for students
STAR Student (MSC) Membership List
Selected first year students who are contracted for two years to receive academic peer advising and other guidance toward graduation
Student Employees (All Units)
Student employment distinguished by Work-Study, Student Wage, and Graduate Assistanceships who was employed in the noted “Service Unit” during the noted “Semester Code”
Student Organization (SL) Membership List
This category indicates student membership in a registered student organization
Student Recognition (ESP-SSS, NASS, RL, SL)
Special awards or recognition given to students by units within Student Affairs; Awards/recognition include Gold Axe recipients, Who’s Who recipients, RA of the Year, etc.
Tutoring (ESP, RL)
Professional or peer academic assistance as it relates to specific classes, coursework, skills and homework
Upward Bound
A former Upward Bound participant attending NAU in the semester noted in “Semester Code”
Upward Bound Math and Science
A former Upward Bound Math and Science participant attending NAU in the semester noted in “Semester Code”
Volunteerism (CR, ESP, MSC, NSP, SL)
Programs, activities, or events that focus on service to the campus or the Flagstaff community; The activity may include a service learning component (orientation, service, and reflection) or simply a community service project done by individuals, groups of students, or student organizations. Programs may include neighborhood clean-up projects, the campus Adopt-A-Plot program, volunteering at a community agency, etc.
Wall Aquatic Center (CR)
Swimming/Diving/Pool programs, passes, and club use of the Wall Aquatic Center
