The Adopt-A-Plot program was created to help improve on the beauty of the mountain campus. NAU students, clubs, and organizations can Adopt a plot of NAU’s campus and volunteer to clean, maintain, and enhance their adopted plot. At ASNAU we care about the unique environment we are surrounded with and strive to protect and preserve it. The NAU Family weekend is a program co-sponsored by ASNAU and the Office of Student Life and takes place during the fall semester. This weekend is designated for NAU families to visit the mountain campus and take part in a number of university events. Some of these events include: Contests, Game shows, tailgate parties, and of course the Family Weekend Football game. ASNAU and the Office of Student Life have prizes awarded to families during halftime of the NAU Football game. Heritage Week is dedicated to celebrating the diversity of culture and heritage at NAU. Heritage Week takes place during the spring semester and allows NAU students the opportunity to learn about the diversity at NAU’s campus. Heritage Week is filled with receptions, speakers, forums, and discussions all relating to the past, present, and future of culture and diversity at NAU. Holiday Week is dedicated to enjoying a variety of traditions and events that NAU has to celebrate the change in seasons and holiday cheer. Holiday week takes place around the end of the fall semester and includes events and programs such as: clothing and food drives, Angel Tree, Luminaries, the Holiday Dance, and much more! Homecoming is a life long tradition at NAU when the NAU family of Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni can return to the mountain campus and celebrate the NAU spirit. Homecoming weekend is co-sponsored by ASNAU, the Office of Student Life, and Blue Key Honor Fraternity. Events during Homecoming include the Homecoming Parade, Tailgating, and the Homecoming Football game. The New Student Organization and ASNAU participate every year in the Homecoming parade and events throughout the weekend. One of the most important traditions during Homecoming is the selection of the Homecoming Dedicatee. The Homecoming Dedicatee is an NAU faculty or member who has shown a love and dedication to the university through their efforts to make NAU a better institution. The Leadership Retreat is an annual event put on by ASNAU and the Office of Student Life. Developing good leaders is one of ASNAU’s missions and the Leadership Retreat was created to allow just that. The Leadership retreat is a day when campus and community leaders come together to share ideas and methods in leadership with other leaders as well as those aspiring to be leaders. The Leadership Retreat is an all day event that takes place during the fall semester. Different topics discussed during the day include: leadership in communities, leadership in clubs and organizations, what makes a better leader, and much more. The Big Event is one of ASNAU’s most recognized programs. During NAU’s Centennial Year, the Associated Students of Northern Arizona University created The Big Event to give back to the community of Flagstaff through a day filled with community service. The Big event contributes approximately 50-70 thousand hours of community service annually. The program uses the efforts of NAU Students, Faculty, and Staff, as well as Flagstaff community members. The Big Event is held early in the fall semester. ASNAU is not only committed to providing support for students at Northern Arizona University but for members of the community as well. By supporting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff and other community programs, ASNAU has the ability to help much more than just students. Through fundraising and volunteer efforts, ASANU can help those who need the support they cannot get alone. ASNAU participates in many of the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff fundraising events such as the “Bowl for Kids Sake” bowl-a-thon.
