What should I wear?
Due to the terrain of the university, campus tour participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes. The tour route includes some moderate hills and walking. Because of our location in northern Arizona, our weather is subject to change from sunny and warm to chilly and wet throughout the year. Summer monsoons often bring afternoon rains; snow is a regular part of our winters. Please dress in layers, wearing comfortable walking clothes to accommodate possible weather and temperature variations. Our regular campus tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Check the Flagstaff weather.

What's presented on the tour?
Tours are led by current students who are extremely knowledgeable about campus life.  Our campus tours are approximately one hour and fifteen minutes long and guide you through the northern part of our 738 acre campus.  Highlights of the tour include visits to a residence hall, the University Union, and academic buildings. Please note that our tour guides will be presenting information and answering questions from your group; you are responsible for monitoring the behavior of your students and making sure they are staying with the group.

Do I have to have a Group Tour Reservation?
Yes.  We would like to provide you with the best possible experience when you visit campus and cannot do that without a prior reservation.  In addition, we will need to make sure that we are able to accommodate your group on your chosen visit day.  Visits are arranged on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please be sure to provide at least three weeks advance notice prior to the date of your visit to allow our coordinators to make the necessary arrangements.

Can my group visit a department not listed on the Request Form?
Possibly.  We will do our best to accommodate special requests but cannot guarantee that the department will be available.  Please allow extra time for us to arrange your visit if you are making any special requests.

Can my group stay overnight in the residence halls?
Unfortunately – for many reasons – we are not able to host groups in the residence halls.  Your group will visit a residence hall on your tour and will be able to get a sense of what it is like to live on campus.  If you are looking for accommodations in Flagstaff, please check out area hotels and motels that offer discounts to our visitors and the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce for additional lodging options.

Who do I contact to get more information?
Please contact Group Tour coordinator, Kristine Curtin, by calling 928-523-5663 or by e-mailing her at kristine.curtin@nau.edu.

You may also reserve a date by visiting our Group Tour webpage.

What can we do to have a great group tour experience?
Here are some tips and recommendations to help us make your visit enjoyable.

  • Enjoy your day on campus!  Students will learn about student life at Northern Arizona University and learn about the different opportunities we have available.

  • Please check the weather before you arrive on campus.  Because of our location in northern Arizona, our weather is subject to change from sunny and warm to chilly and wet throughout the year. Summer monsoons often bring afternoon rains; snow is a regular part of our winters. Check the weather forecast.

  • Give your tour guide your undivided attention. Your visit will involve spending one hour and fifteen minutes walking outside exploring and touring the campus.  In the event of snow, a bus will be used.  Your tour guide will be a current student who will provide a comprehensive view of the campus and is extremely knowledgeable about campus life.  Our tour guides, however, are not responsible for monitoring the behavior of your students.  Please provide at least one chaperone for every ten students and remind your students that they are guests at an academic institution.  Maturity is highly recommended!

  • Please be on time.  While there is some flexibility in your planned itinerary, we are sorry that we can not fully accommodate late groups.  Groups arriving late will begin at their next scheduled event.

  • Keep Hydrated - bring and drink lots of water.  Our campus is located 7,000-feet above sea level and it is easy to become dehydrated.  While there are water fountains available all across campus, your students may want to have water with them on their campus tour.
