Biography
I've really enjoyed all the things to do on campus and I even work on campus. This has been great because I have I met so many people through work. It has been a wonderful experience. I am a Raymond Scholarship Recipient and honored to receive the award. I felt that all the hard work I had put into high school was recognized.
Why did you choose to attend Northern Arizona University?
I explored attending an out of state school and the other schools in state, but this university held the most opportunity for me. There is a great sense of community on campus, more so than any of the other schools that I've been able to visit. The sense of community is also shown in the city of Flagstaff. You really can't get that in a big city.
What do you like best about Northern Arizona University?
I like the fact that it's big enough that there's a lot of opportunity within course choices and there is a diversity among the students. There is opportunity in all the programs. I have found a world of possibility and opportunity here.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
Use the bus system or ride a bike! Don't be afraid to talk to and meet new people. The whole college experience is being social and meeting new and diverse people. If you have friends coming here too, don't exclude yourself from others. Step outside your social comfort bubble and take part in campus activities. Get out, meet people, and expand your social life.
What do you do for fun on the weekends?
It's a growing small town that is uique because most people think that all of Arizona is desert but then you come to Flag and you have mountains, pine trees, and not a cactus in sight. It's wonderful to be able to walk somewhere and not have to drive 20 minutes to get there. I also love the abundance of local businesses. Yes, there's a mall, but downtown has an awesome array of shops and restaurants that are some of the best features of Flagstaff.
Describe the best professor you've had here and explain why.
It's a hard choice between two professors, one that I had in the fall and one I have this spring. However, the one that I've learned the most from has been my SOC 101 professor. Maybe it's the subject but his knowledge and presentation of the subject is what fascinates me. While he is lecturing most of the time I am tuned into what he is saying but I don't really understand his reasoning. But then I'll find myself in a situation where I will subconsciously relate back to his class and apply the concepts. It has been the most useful class for me and his way of presenting the material to us so we can apply it in real life has had the most impact on my learning.
