Transfer Orientation Family/Guest Program

Are parents required to attend Transfer Orientation?

Parents are not required to attend Transfer Orientation; however, parent participation is encouraged.

May family members/guests attend Orientation with their student?

Family members are welcome to attend Orientation for a small fee which covers programming, meals and materials. Family members have a separate agenda where staff will answer questions more specific to being a parent, grandparent, guardian or spouse of a student. Family members should make arrangements to stay locally for Orientation if you plan to extend your stay in Flagstaff after the session has ended. Discounts are available on the Office of Parent Services website.

What should I bring to my student’s Transfer Orientation?

What you should bring will depend on the time of year in which you are attending Orientation. Flagstaff has four seasons. December and January tend to be cold and possibly snowy. Summers tend to be sunny and warm during the day and cool at night. It often rains in the afternoon in the summer. Please note that you will be doing quite a bit of walking. Comfortable clothing and shoes are highly recommended.

You should come equipped with any questions you may have regarding the university, academic information, financial aid, etc. Orientation is a time for students and parents to get better acquainted with the university prior to their arrival for their first semester.

What is the best way to get to Flagstaff? Where should we stay?

There are several ways to travel to Flagstaff. The local airport is the Flagstaff Pulliam Airport, about 5 miles from campus, and currently houses Horizon Air and US Airways. The closest international airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor, about 157 miles or a 2.5 hour drive south of Flagstaff. There are shuttles from Phoenix to Flagstaff provided by A Friendly Shuttle, Flagstaff Express, and Open Road Tours. The Amtrak train station is about one mile from campus. Local rental car services are Enterprise, Avis, Budget, Hertz, Alamo and National.

Do you offer special accommodations?

If you have special needs or accommodations please notify the office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation at (928) 523-0632 at least two weeks prior to your student’s Orientation date so that we can plan accordingly.
