1. Determine your financial need

Many students and families are challenged when it comes to budgeting for a college education, let alone figuring out how much financial aid they may receive.

Financial assistance takes into account the full cost of attending, from tuition and fees, to transportation and personal expenses.  While expenses will vary according to your circumstances, the totals listed in the budgets section below give you a general idea of the cost of attendance.

Our Pledge to YOU - 4 great years, 1 great rate.  Our new guaranteed tuition program helps families plan for college by offering the same tuition rate that is fixed for four years.  This program is available for all Flagstaff campus students.  Now you can plan for college with no guessing and no surprises.  nau.edu/ourpledge

Beginning with your first fall semester, you will:

  • Pay the same tuition rate for four years.
  • If you are receiving gift aid (grants and/or tuition scholarships), you will have the same amount of aid for four years, if you meet required grade point average and credit hours criteria.
  • If you are living in Freshmen Connection halls, you will see no increase in housing rates for two years.
  • You will see no increase in your 14-meal plan rates for two years.

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Program offers reduced tuition for new students from Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming who are enrolled in a WUE major.  More information about WUE

A number of resources are available to help you and your family finance a college education.  Use the links above and our budget calculator at nau.edu/budgetedu to help plan your personal budget and estimate your cost of attendance.

The estimated amount your familiy can contribute toward your cost of attendance is known as your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).  Also, at nau.edu/budgetedu you will find an estimtor where you can calculate your EFC.  The difference beween your cost of attendance and your EFC is your estimated financial need.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition Payment Plan

To help you budget for educational expenses, NAU offers a convenient, low-cost way to spread fall and spring tuition charges over five interest-free installments.  Plus, we now offer a three month installment plan for summer.  The plan features:

  • easy enrollment
  • five interest-free consecutive monthly payments (three months for summer)
  • availability for fall, spring and summer semesters
  • no minimum required for eligibility
  • $70 per semester nonrefundable servicing fee for voluntary enrollment and $100 for auto enrollment ($30 per semester for summer)

To ensure that your classes are saved, even if you miss the tuition payment deadline, enrolled students who have not paid their tuition and fees by the payment deadline will automatically be placed on a tuition payment plan and charged the $100 payment plan service fee.
