1. College Costs

The first thing to do is to figure out how much you’ll be spending each semester, including costs of tuition and fees, books and supplies, plus room and board. You can visit this site to determine your estimated costs of attending Northern Arizona University.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition Payment Plan

To help you budget for educational expenses, Northern Arizona University offers a convenient, low-cost way to spread fall and spring tuition charges over five interest-free installments.  Plus, we now offer a three month installment plan for summer.  The plan features:

  • easy enrollment
  • five interest-free consecutive monthly payments (three months for summer)
  • availability for fall, spring and summer semesters
  • no minimum required for eligibility
  • $50 per semester nonrefundable servicing fee ($30 per semester for summer)

To ensure that your classes are saved, even if you miss the tuition payment deadline, enrolled students who have not paid their tuition and fees by the payment deadline will automatically be placed on a tuition payment plan and charged the $50 payment plan service fee.

For more information, go to the Tuition Payment Plan

2008-2009 Financial Aid Budgets

Financial assistance awards take more than just your actual costs into consideration. Transportation, personal expenses, and more are added to the equation, and when they are put together in a budget, you get a more complete picture of what you will need to pay. While budgets will vary according to each student’s circumstances, the estimated budgets below will give you a general idea of the full cost of attending Northern Arizona University.

Below are the totals are your estimated cost of attendance for an undergraduate and graduate in-state and out-of-state students  and an undergraduate Western Undergraduate Exchage Program student.

The Pledge tuition rate is Northern Arizona University’s commitment to provide a constant tuition rate, as set by the Arizona Board of Regents for eight (8) continuous semesters (summer and winter sessions excluded), beginning with the term of an undergraduate student’s initial enrollment on the Flagstaff campus of Northern Arizona University. For more information, please visit nau.edu/ourpledge.

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Program offers reduced tuition for new students from Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming who are enrolled in a WUE major.  More information about WUE

Estimated Family Contribution (EFC)

Next, estimate your expected family contribution (EFC). Simply put, this is the amount the Federal government will expect your family to be able to contribute toward your college costs. The information you give on the FAFSA will help you estimate your EFC.
The difference between your cost of attendance and your EFC is your estimated financial need.

Example:
Cost of Attendance (Academic Year) $17,357
Expected Family Contribution -$2,150
Financial Need $13,168

To help meet your financial need, we offer a variety of financial assistance options, from loans and grants to scholarships and work-study. In fact, each year Northern Arizona University awards approximately $135 million to help students pay for college. You may be eligible for several of these programs, and the best way to find out is to apply.

International Students: Since federal financial assistance programs are limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents, most international students pay for college using personal or family funds. However, other sources of funding may be available. To learn more, contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at (928)523-4951 or email Financial.Aid@nau.edu.
